This animal, also called a bearcat, is equally as surprising for its physique as for its unusual behaviour! It has a prehensile tail, like monkeys, purring and cleaning itself like a cat. To top it all, its smell is strangely reminiscent of popcorn!
We know very little about this animal, apart from that it lives in large trees, like strangler figs, and eats a huge quantity of fruit. We do not know how many there are, but so much is certain, that the primary forests of Southeast Asia are being destroyed to grow palm oil, which causes great harm to the world’s largest viverrid. Today, the International Union for the Conservation of Nature classifies it as among the at-risk animals.
