In situ conservation.
In opposition, but in an essential and complementary way, there is in situ conservation.
In situ conservation consists of all actions carried out on site to protect an animal or plant species in its natural environment. The success of these actions, generally initiated by local organizations, depends on the establishment of a lasting coexistence between humankind and its activities with the wild world.
To do this, it is important to make local populations aware of the value of their natural heritage, and ensure that all actions implemented are aimed at developing sustainable, lasting, and economically stable activities, and above all, respectful of the surrounding biodiversity.
This is where the Amnéville Zoo steps in. Thanks to collaboration built on encounters and exchanges with local organizations, who know their country, political and economic challenges, cultures, and languages… we can provide our support—financial, through communication, human, or in any way possible—to make joint projects viable.
The organizations supported by Amnéville Zoo are chosen based on criterias that meet our values, which are focused on the relevance and complementarity of the actions carried out. The loss of biodiversity in an ecosystem is a consequence that needs to be addressed as much as the cause. And to do this, the main areas of work that make up the core values of our zoo are research, awareness, protection, and habitat restoration.
A structured commitment
This support may take many different and varied forms, and our teams take the time to build a relevant partnership, based on the real needs and means of each party.
To this end, the Amnéville Zoo has created the Amnéville Zoo Conservation Endowment Fund, whose aim is to contribute to the protection of the natural environment and participate in the preservation of biodiversity.
