Birds

Birds are animals of all extremes. Their ability to fly has allowed them to colonize far more environments than any other animal. From vast oceans to impenetrable tropical forests, birds have shown remarkable ingenuity to adapt and excel in the realm of survival.

Funny teeth

In this workshop, children will learn about the importance of food in the lives of animals as well as the variability of their diet regimes. This knowledge will be provided in connection with the animals’ anatomy through hands-on interaction with educational material.

Animals of hot and cold climates

Nature has provided the animals on our planet with exceptional adaptations that children will discover through the use of educational material.

Introduction to classification

In a first part, the instructor accompanies the students in the park to observe the animals and their characteristics with the goal of filling out a double-entry table.

The second part, in the classroom, will allow students to work with the instructor to create a nested classification of the species observed in the park. The concepts of shared traits, heredity, and relationships of kinship are addressed.

Discovering the zoo

Why do zoos exist and what are their daily missions?

Today, zoos are no longer places of exhibition, but truly for education, conservation, and research.

In small groups, children will analyze the needs of different animals in order to create, with the help of educational materials, an enclosure to welcome them in optimal conditions.

Classification

During a first part, the facilitator accompanies the students in the park to observe the animals and their characteristics in order to fill out a double-entry table.

In a second part in the classroom, the students will rely on their observations in order to understand how scientists classify current biodiversity and past biodiversity. Finally, in small groups, the students will study different animal groups to understand the mechanisms at the origin of biodiversity on Earth.

Roles of a zoological park

Today, zoological parks are no longer places of exhibition, but truly of education, conservation, and research. Faced with the erosion of biodiversity, zoological parks are essential for its protection.

Zoo professions

These are questions that many people ask themselves. So, through this workshop, we offer you the opportunity to discover in a fun way the different animal professions that exist in the zoo. It’s also a chance to learn about the training needed to make a dream come true.

Veterinarians, caretakers, educators, ethologists… so many fascinating professions that allow us every day to ensure the health and well-being of animals, but also ensure a future for the surrounding biodiversity.

Evolution and classification

The objective of the workshop is to help students understand that there is a unity and a diversity of life on Earth, and that this biodiversity is dynamic and is the result of different forces.

The impact of humans on biodiversity will be studied, as well as the solutions that help limit this impact.

A zoo serving biodiversity

Today, zoological parks are no longer exhibition venues, but focus on education, conservation, and research. Faced with the decline in biodiversity, zoological parks are essential for its preservation.

In small groups, the students study real-life cases of different animal species where zoos play a major role in their conservation. At the end of the workshop, each group presents their work to the rest of the class.
