“Faced with 5 horns”
Like the other ceratopsians, the pentaceratops has a particularly impressive frill at the back of the skull, nearly 3 meters long and 5 horns, one on the nose, 2 on the side of its snout and 2 above the eyes.
These ornaments surely served it for defense against predators but also to attract peers or assert its dominance in the herd. In the same way as other ceratopsians, it is assumed that it lived in herds but to this day there is too little information about their social behaviors to say so with certainty.
It had a beak-shaped mouth and a powerful jaw to crush the plants it fed on.
These muscular legs allowed it to support its significant weight. It is thought that it spent most of its time eating to conserve its energy.
