The gorilla is the largest of all primates! The adult male can weigh over 200 kg! The female, on the other hand, is smaller and weighs less than 100 kg. It is easy to distinguish between the sexes, since there is sexual dimorphism. At sexual maturity, the male develops a sagittal crest on top of the skull as well as longer canines.
Social animals, gorillas live in harems of 5 to 20 individuals, consisting of one male, several females and their young. Other adult males can form bachelor groups. Even though they have extraordinary strength, conflicts are often resolved through intimidation and very rarely through confrontation. They do not have a fixed territory and move continually through the rainforest where they mainly eat leaves.
