The polar bear lives all around the Arctic Circle, so it can be found in Norway, Russia, Greenland, Alaska, and Canada. Adapted to this extreme environment, it can survive at -46°C. Different adaptations allow for this survival: an 11cm layer of fat as well as specialized fur and skin. In fact, the fur is not white but transparent, allowing the sun’s rays to be directed towards the black skin to store as much heat as possible. A super predator at the top of the food chain, it mainly feeds on seals, which it hunts by waiting patiently for them to come up above their breathing hole. It can also eat fish, seabirds, and the carcasses of marine mammals.
