The scarlet macaw is a species native to the tropical forests of South America. Its geographical range extends from Mexico to Brazil. Social, these birds live in large groups composed of several pairs who are faithful for life. During the day, the pairs go their separate ways to look for food. Their meals consist of fruits, nuts, and seeds. The rest of the day is devoted to rest or strengthening the bond between pairs through close flights and preening sessions. At night, members of the group gather and sleep together. These animals have a lifespan of 40-50 years in the wild but can reach 75 years in captivity.
