The Amur or Chinese panther is one of several subspecies of panther, named after its range in China and Russia along the Amur River. A carnivore, it feeds on deer, roe deer, wild boar, hares and badgers. It is patient, waiting for its prey to get close enough before pouncing on it. Hunting techniques are passed on by the mother to the young, who may stay with her until they are 2 years old. Litters generally consist of 1 to 5 young weighing 600g and are totally blind at birth.
