This dinosaur was described from an incomplete skeleton.
Its name means “crested lizard of ice.” Discovered in Antarctica about 650 kilometers from the South Pole, it nevertheless did not live in such extreme conditions as those currently found in this part of the globe. In fact, during the Jurassic, the discovery site was located approximately 1,000 kilometers from the South Pole. Nevertheless, the climatic conditions were not tropical but temperate.
Because of its crest, it was first named Elvisaurus in reference to the famous singer Elvis Presley’s hairstyle.
