Brown bears live in Europe, Asia and North America. There are therefore many subspecies around the world. In France, it is the Eurasian subspecies that is present. It is a solitary, omnivorous animal that feeds on roots, berries, mushrooms, fish and meat. To survive the winter, it eats further upstream to build up its fat reserves and save as much energy as possible: this is called wintering. During this winter rest, the body temperature drops by 3 to 5 degrees. It can nevertheless wake up whenever it wants, to feed, give birth or to face the slightest danger.
