The gorilla is the most corpulent of all primates! Adult males can weigh over 200 kg! The female, on the other hand, is smaller, weighing less than 100 kg. It is easy to tell the difference between the two sexes, as there is sexual dimorphism. When the male reaches sexual maturity, the sagittal crest at the top of the skull and the canine teeth develop.
Gorillas are social, living in harems of 5 to 20 individuals, made up of a male, several females and their young. Other adult males may form groups of single males. Although they are extraordinarily strong, conflicts are settled by intimidation and very rarely by confrontation. They have no territory to speak of and are constantly on the move in the rainforest, where they eat mainly leaves.
